Wednesday 14th September arrived and The Conquest Hospital called me to say that my consultant was so busy that some of his patients have been transferred to a different consultant, including me, and that the new guy is able to do my operation on the 26th September. Did I want them to go ahead and book me in? Of course, I accepted the offer as quickly as I could and so I’ve got to go for my pre-op examination next Tuesday, to make sure I’m fit enough for the operation.
Yet again, how quickly my mood can change.
I’ve had my pre-op assessment and it seems that I’m well enough for my operation to go ahead so barring any unforeseen circumstances I should be going under the knife next Monday. I have my Hibiscrub (the special soap) to use for a shower Sunday night and again on Monday morning.
We shall have to get up at a ridiculously early hour, 4.45am, as Bob has got to get me to the hospital by 7:30am to get checked in and say bye to Bob who will stay in the hospital but is not allowed to stay with me.
Then, I’ll be shown to my bed and given my rear ventilated gown to change into. Then, it’s just a matter of waiting for my turn to go to the theatre. As it is day surgery, in the morning and out in the afternoon, I’m used to a long wait so I’ve got a magazine and puzzle book to take with me to keep me entertained.
